PHILAKOREA 2009 24th Asian International Stamp Exhibition
- April 10, 2008

PHILAKOREA 2009 24th Asian International Stamp Exhibition will be held for 6 days from July 30 to August 4 2009, at COEX (Convention and Exhibition Center), Seoul.

Following the exhibitions of the 1984, 1994 and 2002 PHILAKOREA World Stamp Exhibition, the PHILAKOREA 2009 Asian International Stamp Exhibition will mark the first hosting of the Asian stamp exhibition by Korea. PHILAKOREA 2009 is anticipated to present a wonderful opportunity for Asian countries, who have been operating in a deep-rooted, cooperative relationship both geographically and historically, in exchanges of stamp culture while solidifying their long friendships. PHILAKOREA 2009 will be participated by 30 Asian countries, who will present 1,500 frames of stamp exhibits. Along with PHILAKOREA 2009, the 17th FIAP (Federation of Inter-Asian Philately) Congress and executive committee meeting will be held.

Wishing for the success of PHILAKOREA 2009, four commemorative stamps featuring Korea’s traditional dances are issued: the Buchaechum (fan dance) displaying the perfect harmony between the exquisite beauty of the folding fan and the dancer’s dynamic actions; Salpurichum (A solo dance for spiritual cleansing) where the dancer holding a long piece of white cloth shows delicate dance movements performed with restraint; Seungmu (Monk's dance) where the dancer in a Buddhist attire comprised of a white long-sleeved robe and crimson surplice and white peaked hat, shows an understated and tranquil dance; Taepyeongmu (Dance of Peace), a dance that depicts the wish for the peaceful reign of the country, showing the culmination of the beauty of “movement within stillness.” white long-sleeved robe and crimson surplice and white peaked hat.
